Location: Corbière at the South Western tip of the UK Channel Island of Jersey

From what I can tell, this is a German bunker built in World War II. I didn't see any markings to indicate what it is, but from my previous trip to the neighbouring island of Guernsey last summer, it seems to fit the bill.

Like Guernsey, Jersey was an island for the most part occupied by German forces during the World War II as it is located much closer to France than the UK (France being under German control at the time).

Of course, we know how the story ends, the Allies won and Jersey was liberated in the process. For all the hardships they were subjected to, the local residents nevertheless still decided to keep much of the German "artifacts" intact, as they feel it is still part of their history and should not be swept under the rug.

HDR composite from 3 separate exposures.

It looks like a combined barrack and ammunition storage bunker, along with one (I'm guessing a second one as well) light flak or PaK positions. Was there anything else in area? I'm going ot try to go out to the beach tomorrow wiht my camera to take a few pictures of the stuff uncle Adolf left us...

Yeah there's a few of these bunkers scattered around in Jersey, along with some preserved cannons.

They probably decided to keep the German artifacts in place because it would be a huge pain in the ass to remove them and would leave big, gaping scars on their otherwise beautiful coastline. Or, maybe they're afraid that England will attack someday?

Might be some truth to that :) I noticed in one instance at least where they converted a German tower for their own purposes, like a lighthouse or weather station.

There are some very similar installations just over the Golden Gate Bridge north of San Francisco. BIG gun installation and a bunch of smaller stuff. Some of it from the Civil War - I can imagine what a giant pain it would be to remove them.
