Have you seen the Sardinian flag? It has four heads like the Corsican head. Only they have their eyes covered while the Corsican head is simply wearing a scarf.

Oh yeah, I was wondering where I had seen the 4-headed flag before, thanks for reminding me! I was looking for it just a couple days ago thinking it might have been Sicily, but no dice, so I'm glad you steered me in the right direction. I think I'll put that on my next list of flags to grunge up

As I was reading about it on wikipedia, it does however appear that Sardinia changed their flag a little after 1999, so that now their eyes are no longer covered.

Yeah. In Corsica there is a legend about the flag. During the Arab invasion in the Middle Ages one of the invaders kidnapped or killed someone's sister/daughter/fiancee(it varies). The guy tracked him down, cut off his head and brought it home.
Later if a Corsican killed an Arab, he could use the head as his family crest.
